Experience one of the most important architectural creations of historicism in Europe in Schwerin - the historical ensemble around the castle with more than 30 buildings.
The residence ensemble on Lake Schwerin is an architectural and landscape ensemble that fits into the context of the emergence and development of the historicist style in Europe in the second half of the 19th century, particularly in the German kingdoms and principalities. The construction of the grand ducal seat of power in the 19th century led to the implementation of an architectural and landscape programme in the city of Schwerin that illustrates all the civil and religious functions of a capital city that was the seat of a monarch.
CLASSIC TO MODERN
Historically grown and unique collections of high-calibre artists can be found at the Staatliches Museum Schwerin, for example.
And in the Mecklenburg State Theatre you can enjoy everything from classical to modern plays. The milestone for the long tradition of Schwerin's theatre was laid back in 1563 with the founding of the court chapel.
The highlights are the castle festival and the castle festival in summer.
FIRST CLASS
Since its founding concert in 1990, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival has developed into the third largest classical music festival in Germany. Around 120 concerts at over 80 venues throughout the state, as well as the "Small Festival in the Big Park" in Ludwigslust, attract visitors to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern from June to September.
